Kathon can be called the first preservative, mainly for the following reasons: 

1. Kathon is arguably the most popular preservative in the world, with the widest range of applications; 

2. Kathon is the most cost-effective preservative, and everyone has the highest recognition; 3. The annual production capacity is the largest, reaching 50,000 tons, accounting for about three-tenths of ten thousand in China.

一. Basic data of the compound Kathon is actually a mixture, 

the main components are 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMIT), 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (MIT. Both The ratio is generally 3:1, not to say that this ratio works best, but the cost performance is better. Second, the color of Kathon The product is a light yellow or light green transparent liquid, and its active substance content is ≥ 1.50%, including 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one 1.15%, 2-methyl-4-isothiazole Pyridin-3-one 0.35%. Its color is related to the selected divalent metal stabilizer and has nothing to do with the antibacterial and antifungal effect of the product itself. Since divalent metal ions may cause salting out or corrosion in some emulsions and other fields, monovalent metal ion or metal ion-free products have been developed, and the product color is colorless. Of course, the price is higher than that of the common Casson, and this series of products can be used as special.

二. The shortcomings of Kathon has the following three shortcomings. 

If these three points can be solved, as a preservative, Carson is invincible in the world. 

1. Kathon is afraid of alkali, and its stability decreases when the pH is greater than 8. The applicable range of pH is 1~9; 

2. Kathon is afraid of heat and should not be stored in an environment higher than 40℃ for a long time. It decomposes faster than 50℃; 

3. Amines, mercaptans, sulfides, strong reducing agents (such as sodium sulfite and bleach) and high pH will inactivate the product. 

4. The bactericidal performance of P. aeruginosa is not false. Solution: Using slow-release technology to prepare carcassone can expand the use of carcassone. But there is a lack of sterilization speed.

三. Application Kathon is used in a wide range of fields, the common ones are:

 (1) Widely used for antiseptic, sterilization and mildew prevention of cosmetics, personal care products, daily chemicals and other products, such as shampoo, conditioner, shaving products, foundation, lotion, cream, baby products, sunscreen and cleaning Agents and other products (products that need to be rinsed with water);

 (2) Widely used in coatings, water-based polymers, metal cutting fluids, adhesives, printing pastes, inks, dyes, color pastes, printing pastes, printing and dyeing aids, textile aids, paraffin liquid, wood, leather, water treatment , Industrial circulating water, pulp, paper, power plants, steel, smelting, petroleum, oil refining, oil field water injection, chemical, plastic, rubber, pharmaceutical, fiber, textile and other industries antiseptic sterilization. Casson not only has good effect on molds and bacteria, but also has good killing effect on algae. In a seawater environment, Kathon has a LC99 killing effect on purely cultured single-cell algae and all organisms in natural seawater at a low concentration of 2.4 mg/L.
